where do i find the pink foam for modeling?

Postby Nerdfest09 » Tue Mar 06, 2012 2:32 am

Hi guys, does anyone know where abouts in tassie I can get hold of the pink foam they seem to use all the time on GW and other hobby sites? I am building a RoB board and aim to raise my ruins to give them depth and enable me to add more details but I am not 100% sure what the particular foam I need is called? and how to seal it before paint? if anyone can help i'd be greatly appreciative!

thanks for your time!

There's a place in Kings Meadows called RMAX that make styrofoam. I have no idea if they do the pink styrofoam, but it could be worth checking them out.

The only place I know of is in Hobart but I can't remember the name.

For what it's worth, if you're asking around for the pink or blue polystyrene, apparently it's called extruded polystyrene (the normal white stuff is expanded polystyrene).

Edit:
Also, having just browsed the RMAX website, apparently they only do expanded polystyrene, so I'm not sure that they'll have what you're looking for...

I asked in foamland once about the pink foam and after checking the warehouse order list the sales guy said he couldn't fine any where that was selling it in Australia but when i showed him a picture of the foam he brought four products that where almost the same but for the life of me I cant remember what there called (this was 3or 4 years ago).

Here's there website

Thanks heaps everyone for that, I'll try foamland and see what i come up with, it's strange as I see it constantly on the modeling forums and Games Workshop site, yet it doesn't seem to have a specific brand we can source to use, I'll let you all know if i find it, but if you think of anywhere else then please keep on postin' :-)

Nerdfest, did you end up finding a source for modelling foam?

I think Damo mentioned and I can confirm that RMAX at Kings Meadows stock high density extruded foam...they have samples of it in the Home Ideas Centre (or whatever that place is now called).

X35 seemed to be a very suitable foam as it would lend itself to sculpting (fluted lathe chisels work well).

Didn't see any of the pink or blue foams but I imagine they would have them out at their premises or something along similar lines.

Apparently these guys have a state outlet as well and stock it.

Probably the pick of them.

No idea on cost though.
