TALE OF MARIUS

Image

The night had been a long and quiet one, Arbite Sergeant Marius was ready for it to be over. Since last month the Arbite Patrols had been forced to double, as a counter measure to the growing threat of the Chaos Cults that had infected the city. Hopefully in the coming weeks the Gudrun 51st regiment would absorb some of the workload, Governor Grundleman had happily recalled the Regiment when requested, as a survivor of the First Capathian War the thought of returning to the Grim Darkness of 10 years ago was truly frightening.

Marius felt a shiver as his patrol walked past the door of the Reliquary of Souls, it was mind boggling that the Gorvenment had ordered it to be rebuilt, how could anyone expect the dead to rest in peace after what had happened in there all those years ago. On this sacred ground the souls of the dead were nearly ripped from the afterlife to create a daemon army. Marius fortunately hadn't been at the battle, as he was only a new recruit at that stage tasked with guarding the Medical staff at the rear of the frontline, but as hardened as he had become slaughtering cultist, something about this place still made the hair on his neck stand to attention.

Just as they started to move away from the reliquary, a sound split the silence, it resembled the shattering of glass. With a swift hand gesture the K-9 handler unleashed his Cyber Mastiff into the darkness ahead, with clockwork efficiency the Arbites flicked there weapons from safety to fire mode. Before the could catch up to the mastiff a robotic bark rang through the night, followed by the unmistakable rumble of a heavy stubber.
"Shieldwall, brace for contact front". Marius barked
With well drilled precision, the two Arbites Enforcers with riot shields took up frontal postioning with Marius and the K-9 handler behind. No sooner had they finished taking up positions six cultist charged out of the darkness, the first wave bounced off the shields as the enforcers brought their stun battons down, Marius fired his Shotgun oven the shield wall slaying another. As they clubbed the last few cultist into submission a harrowing thought crossed his mind, where was the heavy stubber he had heard, the answer was soon to follow as metallic death rang through the air ripping his squad to pieces. Charging the gunner Marius tackeled him to the ground and pounded his head until he could hardly lift his arm.
"This is Sergeant Marius Enforcer Patrol Twenty Eight, requesting both armed and medical assistance to the East Reliquary Entrance" Marius uttered as he rolled off the now lifeless cultist. Looking around at the gory mess he quickly checked for signs of life, all were dead except for two heavily unconcious cultist which he rapidly secured with his adamantite shackles. With the sound of sirens approaching he picked up his shotgun and started searching for the signs of the original noise, as he moved down the side of the reliquary he spotted the smouldering corpse of the K-9 unit, and a smashed window leading into the Reliquary. Just outside the window was a satchel bag, on investigation he found a book with the unmistakleable symbol of Nurgle emblazoned on its cover. What had he interrupted?

Captain Bravo Malstrom has only lead 3 battles thus far. Being considered inexperienced by his regiment commanders, he made the ideal choice to send to Capthia. If he fails it is of little consiquence to the regiment, but if he succeeds thay gain another valuable experienced commander.

Captain Krasus sat alone in the bridge, sealed behind the heavy blast door. The screams of soldiers dying had finally been silenced. The attack had come fast and without warning. Astartes warriors from the Death Guard had attacked and boarded the ship before a proper defence could be mounted. He could still see his men, their bloated corpses splitting and leaking blood and pus.

The silence was broken by the sound of a thousand flies echoing in the ventilation system. With the sound came the overwhelming stench of shit and decay. They had found him.

He looked over at the blast door. Slowly it had began to rust as though the steel was infected by disease. He took aim at the door with his Lasgun, for all the help it might do.

A huge rusted power fist smashed through the corroded blast door. Krasus opened fire, shooting blindly into the foul mist that had begun to fill the room.

The gun became like fire in his hands as though it had contracted a virus and he dropped it.

Plague Lord Tyrus emerged from the mist. His armour cracked and leaking blood and pus. A swarm of flies hovering around him. He reached out with his power fist and closed it around the Captain's neck, lifting him off the ground. Krasus stared into his face, mutated beyond reason with one single eye in the centre. His breath so toxic with plague he vomited. Suddenly the comms system came to life

++++++++
Incoming Trasnmission
This is Signal Master Walter Churchill requesting the aid of any available imperial forces to Carpathia. The chaos threat has increased, immediate assistance required to cleans the heretics. In the name of the Emperor.
Transmission Ended
++++++++

Lord Tyrus has heard the transmission. Carpathia..... it had been 10 long years since the Death Guard has aided in the assault. It appeared the time had come again to bring the presence of the plague god.

His eye moved back to Krasus. Choking for air the captain managed his final words. "May the Emperor Protect"

Tyrus closed his mighty fist, separating Captain Krasus' head form his body.

Chaos Lord Tyrus turned and left the room, disappearing back into the foul mist.

Inquisitor Von Griffinstein had be alerted to the Heretic incursion on Carpathia last time there was a struggle there. He has since scoured the warp and all relevant systems, surrounding Carpathia, and has come to the firm conclusion that the malevolent Chaos gods are at work namely Nurgle and the rot that it brings, sightings of Damonic engines of war, the ruthless slave traders of the Darkeldar have made the presence known through the warp, traitor units of guard and Scions have been trying to muster more reinforcements. and lastly reports have just come in from the outer rim that TAU have a vested interest in Carpathia.

Inquisitor Von Griffinstein has sent word to the Grey Knights for assistance as they have a battle Barge not far from Carpathia as there has been reports of Daemons. The Resilient Inquisitor has Gathered the Loyal Guard squads and Veterans, along with some trusty Leman Russ battle tanks, small amounts of Space marines have arrived to shore up the defenses of Carpathia but is it enough to stem the Chaos that is about to come at them. Before the Grey Knights can arrive in Force to Banish this Foul Chaos for Good.

Bar'ma'us emerged from his transformation to daemonhood granted to him by his patron Grandfather nurgle. Upon this emergence he reward his loyal bodyguard, who had been with him since the time of Horace, with a gift from nurgle reforming them into his Guard of the Hopeless.

With his new found power Bar'ma'us set his sights on Carpathia, what his plan were for Carpathia no one could know for sure but it would be a worthy thanks to nurgle for the reward of daemonhood which would be accomplished through a brutal assault by The Brotherhood of Despair. Each of the Brotherhood was a veteran from Son of Horus no other legion troops were permitted irrespective of their affiliation with the Black Legion. Each member of the Brotherhood were dedicated to Bar'ma'us and would ensure his plan for Carpathia were accomplished no matter the cost….

Location: Segofax a Small factory town, 150km outside the City of Carpathia on Planet Gudrun.

The lumpy idle of the Interogator Chaplains bike broke the early morning serenity, the cowardous traitors had holed themeselves up inside when they heard the overcharged bike engines screaming down the valley towards their hideout.
"What are your orders High Chaplain Crassus? We didn't exactly bring an assault force to breach and sweep this facility." Queeried one of the dark riders?
Crassus looked at him with his empty eyesockets, not yet uttering any words.
"The boy has a point Sir, there are only 5 of us and the Emperor only knows how many of the blighters are hiding inside." The Sergeant now chimed in.
An awkward silence ensued before Crassus finally broke the silence, croaking with his mechanical voicebox they had installed when they rebuilt his body following the first Carpathian War 10 years ago.
"I remember when I was a boy, before I was chosen to join the Angels and I still resided on my homeworld, we had a great pile of rubbish, twice the size of a landraider and my father, the town elderman had the honour of lighting it on fire to symbolise the the destruction of the old dank town we lived in heralding transformation and advancement towards a better future. As the trash was engulfed in flames, rats, hundreds of rats poured out of the burning pile, squeeking in fear. As young boys we laughed histerically as he jumped on the little pests and felt them squish beneath our boots. Now my sons it seems that we have a pile of trash and its full of rats, now what history tells me is that when a rats home is set alight the little rodents will come out."
Crassus walked over to a pile promethium canisters and sent one assunder spilling the liquid across the wall of the factory, on his lead the other Dark Riders followed his example and soon the smell of Promethium tainted the air. Kicking their bikes back into life the Riders pulled back from the factory, except Crassus who gunned the engine and lit the puddles of Promethium with his flaming Maul before riding to a safe distance.
"Come out little rodents" he uttered before laughing maniacally in his creepy robotic voice.

5 minutes passed before the screams started, soon the entire valley reeked of burning flesh and the factory doors swung open, the cultists poured out some still burning as they ran out of the building. As the flood of evacuating occupents grew larger the bikers kicked into life, shooting and riding down the Cultists in droves, it was an absolute massacre. It took little time for them to mop up the survivors, and once the majority were taken care of Crassus went about chaining a survivor to the back of his bike.
"Answer my question Heretic" he barked as the cultist wept on the ground with his hands shackled.
"Not to worry, you will tell me eventually." Crassus smiled if thats what you could call the strange facial anomalily he instigated. Glancing over he could see a group of children from the nearby village had gathered, horrified by the sight before them. The true horror being that most of the dead cultists were probably their fathers, brothers and friends. Still maintaining his uncomfortable grin he gazed back at the children before giving them the thumbs and a nod of the head. Eyes forward he jumped on the throttle and sent the wheels screaming in a hail of smoke, the poor soul attached to his bike bouncing along behind and his rode off into the darkness........

In the process of setting up a third of his platoon to gaurd the armory Captain Bravo Malstrom was surprised by the arrival of Tau forces. Confused by there arrival he thought mayby he was getting extra support to gaurd the armory. This was quickly dispelled as the platoon command was suddenly attacked as well as one of the heavy weapon squads taking both out of action.

With quick orders to return fire, a well placed shot from the battle tank killed the Tau commander and most of his squad and the missle teams managed to do do serious damage to some of the othe Tau squads. The defense of the armory was going well until a serious of missles hit Captain Bravo Malstrom squad knocking him unconscious, allowing the Tau to quickly overwhelm the defenders.

Captain Bravo was pulled to safely by a few of the injured survivurs and regrouped with the rest of his forces. Now thoughts turn to why the Tau attacked and why they seem to be supporting the chaos cause, or do they have there own agender.
