Black Crusade - The Twisted Path

SO OUR FIRST JOURNEY along the twisted path has come to pass.

It started on the agri-world of Arcadius, a world within the Maelstrom and now shielded from the discriminate eyes of the Imperium. The world and this particular sector had been made compliant by the Word Bearers millennia ago. The sector simply replaced the Emperor with the Gods of Chaos.

Kazz Jarl, a vicious fighter of some renown had returned to her home planet, investigating the death of her father. Her uncle, Heshmel Jarl, had welcomed her home and explained what had happened.
The power of her father had been usurped a few years ago by the offworlder Absalom. This had split the the world in two - those who supported the rightful rule of the Jarls and those who had been converted by Absalom. Both men were wary however that open conflict would draw the attention of Caeltia Prime, the nearby hive world which demanded regular shipments of maize and grox.

Hesmel noted that Absalom had been driving the price of the product down to unbearable prices. The uncle suspected that Absalom was getting profit elsewhere.

Heshmel promised some aid to his niece though he could not do this openly. He had hired three offworlders to aid her in bringing revenge to the usurper - a former Blood Pact soldier, a son of the Dark Mechanicus and somewhat unhinged warlock.

And so Kazz and the mercenaries set off to investigate. In the main town of Arcadia, they found within Absalom's brothel that trade of a drug called Rose had been increasing. After the team broke into the building, a young teenage worker had nearly alarmed the guards. Quick reflexes by the team ensured the girl was quiet. After providing information on the next delivery of Rose, the heartless Kazz snapped the girl's neck; letting her go would only endanger the mission. Pity not the weak!

Two days later the team attacked the delivery men, a few of Absalom's crew guarding the couple of men heaving the goods. The two men were burly and covered in blood and offal. The smell offended the senses, something between sweat and a charnel house. In the subsequent fire fight, the brothel was set alight and the guards killed. Through the confusion of the fire, Kazz and the others escaped.

They ventured to the meatworks up North. By the morning they had found the substantial plantation of Rose, confirming Absalom's new source of income. As the plantation seemed to be guarded well, Kazz and the others retreated back to the House of Jarl.

After hearing the news, Hesmel was at odds what to do. He requested a meeting with the Arch-Presibiter Ovidious, the head spiritual leader of Arcadius. Ovidious blessed the attack on Absalom on the condition that there would not be much disruption to the supply of maize and grox product to Caeltia Prime and that an undisclosed percentage of the profit was forwarded to the Church.

Heshmel, still reluctant of showing arms against Absalom openly devised a rough plan - he would organise a diversionary attack on the plantation which would draw most of Absalom's men from the palace. Kazz and the group would then infiltrate and dispose of the usurper.

When Kazz and the group were ready outside the perimeter of Absalom's Palace, they signalled the diversion to start. It indeed worked - a column of trucks was filled by the enemy and sent away.
Kazz and the group brazenly attacked the weakly defended palace. The warlocks doombolts obliterated much of them and the outer guards were dispacthed without much difficulty.

The fight in the actual palace itself was slightly harder fought. Kazz gave no chance to Absalom and wounded the obese man with a gunshot. The usuper escaped deeper into the palace, leaving his Keisha, his personal bodyguard, to kill the invaders. The son of the Dark Mechanicus and Blood Pact soldiers engaged the remaining guards whilst Kazz and the warlock danced with Keisha. The woman was a skilled swordsman and nearly cleaved the warlock with her powersword. However as the rest of the guards were shot, Keisha was outnumbered. As the warlock lay bleeding, the Keisha has hit in the face and guts with a chainsword, her face sliced off and her guts falling out.

As Keisha died Kazz and the group chased after Absalom. He was not far, indeed just in the next chamber laying half dead on his enormous bed.
He tried to bragain for his life with information but Kazz ignored him and blew his brains out with a single shot.

They returned the House of Jarl and Heshmel was beyond pleased. He would provide medical asssistance to the wounded. Heshmel noted that they would still need to get off planet. They were still wanted by the general population for nearly destroying the town by fire.

And so weeks after and in full recovery, Hesmel tells it is now time to leave - a ship awaits to take them to Caeltia Prime.
